A FUNDRAISING event has been organised for the East Lancashire Hospice in memory of a former singer who died there earlier this year.
Stella Smith often sang at the Blackburn Home Organ and Keyboard Club meetings, accompanied by chairman Bob Hornby and it was her dying wish that a charity event be held for the hospice.
The 62-year-old grandmother of Downham, in Ribble Valley, visited the hospice three times while suffering from cancer of the pancreas and liver and died there in July.
Mr Hornby, 76, said: "It was her dying wish that the club give a charity event on her behalf and that all the proceeds go to the hospice.
"They cared for her so well at the hospice and her first idea was that if she got better she would do something for them. Now her friends are doing it for her."
It is expected that most of the club members will give a short performance or join in by singing at the event, to be held on Tuesday October 15, from 8pm.
This will be at the usual fortnightly meeting venue of St Stephen's Conservative Club, Robinson Street, Little Harwood.
Entry will be by ticket only and these are available for £2 from Mr Hornby, on 01299 440169 or Jean M Copeland on 01254 261477.
