HEADTEACHER Hugh Burkinshaw put his best foot forward to kick off Walk to School week.
Mr Burkinshaw, of Peel Park Primary School, Alice Street, Accrington, walked the four miles from his home in Padiham in a bid to lead by example and raise funds from sponsorship. He said: "It's 4.7 miles uphill most of the way and I have been training."
On the way to school at Hapton he was joined by teacher Patricia Burns.
Mr Burkinshaw said: "We are asking everybody to make a little effort of their own.
"We are going to close the car park for half an hour at the end of school so pedestrians have a safer exit from the premises."
