POLLUTION inspectors have given Castle Cement the all-clear after a thick, black cloud was spotted coming from chimneys at the firm's Ribblesdale works.
Residents near the Clitheroe plant complained of the unsightly plume at around 8am yesterday and the Environment Agency sent pollution inspectors to investigate.
An agency spokesman said the apparent black cloud was caused by weather conditions and inspectors had found nothing wrong.
"The plume looked a lot worse than it was, because it was a cold, frosty morning, and a bright sun was behind it. There was absolutely nothing wrong and people have nothing to worry about," she said.
Peter Parkes, Castle Cement's clinker manager, said emissions at the time of the plume were well within authorised limits.
