I WAS pleased to read P Allen's comments (Letters, September 21) about the council's obligations to asylum seekers.
I would like to ask them about their obligations to the old people who are being turned out of their homes after having paid their taxes and contributed to this country in every way.
Charity begins at home. Let's look after our own first and if there is anything left over, by all means provide for other people.
What is the amount of money being handed out to asylum seekers and where does this money actually come from? Everyone should have the true facts. There are too many rumours circulating, which only cause trouble and bad feeling among a great many people.
IRENE THORNLEY (Mrs), Coniston Drive, Darwen.
