LANCASHIRE County Council have got themselves into a really crazy situation and one that couldn't be more ironic.
In future, they say they want to help people in their old age to remain in their own homes, but that the only way they can do this is by uprooting the frail residents from their homes as soon as possible and then closing those care homes.
This is robbing Peter to pay Paul, with a vengeance! Maybe I shall need help to stay in my own home one day, but I certainly don't want that help if it depends on the cruel price that would be paid by the hundreds of elderly people in the threatened homes.
Over the past months, many compelling reasons have been given for the retention of sufficient care homes to cater not only for people with dementia, but other serious needs.
There must be another way than that suggested by the county council and there should be ongoing discussion by everyone concerned until that way is found.
Thousands of peoplethe public are opposed to the present proposal. I fervently hope the county councillors come up with a more, our elected representatives will vote against it on September 26, and a more realistic solution that is both compassionate and just.
