Leigh 29-25 Tyldesley: LEIGH RU restored local bragging rights with an exciting late 29-25 win over their fiercest rivals Tyldesley in the Powergen Cup.

Leigh started impressively with two tries in the opening minutes from centre Paul Wilcock and winger Scott Harrison for a 12-0 lead. Tyldesley then settled into a strong forward game, which led to a try, penalty and conversion from Mark Dickenson.

The same player then put Tyldesley ahead early in the second half when he charged down a kick to score a converted try. Fisher and Dickenson exchanged penalties before Tyldesley produced a good score from wing Gary Corbet, after a kick to the corner.

At this point the Tyldesley forwards began to fire and the pacy Leigh backs now came into the game. Concerted pressure from the Leigh side was rewarded when former Tyldesley scrum-half Lee Cunliffe dived over to score. Fisher converted.

Leigh moved the ball well from deep and a long kick was misjudged by Wallbank for Wilcock to gather an score under the posts. Fisher converted to complete the scoring.

Outstanding performers were Hampson and Browning in the Leigh pack and Dickenson in the Tyldesley backs, who won the C&S Wood Motors man of the match.

In what turned out to be an excellent game of rugby to match the conditions, Leigh 'A' where beaten 36-24 by an experienced and well organised Ormskirk team.

Leigh trailed 14-10 at half time with their points coming from tries by Baines and Sutton. At 21-10 down, Leigh came back with a Boardman try and Eccleston conversion but Orkskirk hit back to lead 29-17.

Parker and Eccleston to put fly half Mckenna clear from 30 yards out to outpace the oncoming defence. He converted his own try to leave Leigh trailing by just one score but Ormskirk secured the win with a late converted try.

The Vets beat Garstand 48-0 with tries from Westwell (2), Smith, Dainty (2), Unsworth, McKinstry and Boardman.
