FIREFIGHTERS are warning of the dangers of leaving candles unattended following a man's lucky escape yesterday (Wednesday).
The 24-year-old was woken at his Chisworth Close flat in Leigh by the smell of smoke, a candle he had left burning on top of his TV in the living room had melted down and set the TV alight.
Thinking quickly, he threw a wet towel onto the flames, but when firefighters arrived at 6.20am they pointed out the dangers of mixing water and electrical appliances.
The TV set was destroyed and the living room was smoke logged. The man declined hospital treatment.
