BURY'S popular Mill Gate shopping centre will resound to the sound of drums today (Fri Sept 27) during the official opening of the £3 million Minden Parade redevelopment.
At 10.45am, the Lancashire Fusiliers Association Corps of Drums will march into the centre as a prelude to the official opening at 11am.
The Mayor of Bury Councillor John Smith and Lieutenant Colonel Geoff Youll of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will perform the opening ceremony.
The Army has been invited because the new-look shopping mall is named after the famous Battle of Minden. The Fusiliers were one of six regiments who fought there in 1759. Both VIPs will unveil a plaque in memory of the battle and in honour of the Regiment.
A Tower FM roadshow will start at Mill Gate following the opening and the fun continues tomorrow (Sat) with an appearance by comic superhero "Spiderman" between 11am and 2pm. On Sunday, there's musical entertainment and free face painting all day.
The redevelopment embraces six brand new shops and stores.
