LANCASTER finally has a canal link with London - more than 200 years after it was first planned.
The £6 million scheme in Preston was opened by Rural Affairs minister, Margaret Beckett MP, on Friday.
The schemes link the Lancaster canal to the Leeds-Liverpool canal and the main UK water network, via the River Ribble.
Plans for a northern link to Kendal are also well advanced.
