TEENAGE golfer Sean Doherty achieved a remarkable feat when he became a triple champion in the space of 24 hours.
Sean, who hails from Sunnybank and is a former pupil at St Monica's High School in Prestwich, won the mens singles, the mens doubles and the junior knockout competitions at Bury Golf Club earlier this month.
His victory roll began on a Saturday evening and was completed the following day to make it a real weekend to remember for 18-year-old Sean, who also holds the course record, set when he shot a 64 in May this year.
Sean beat Gary Waites of Bury 5 and 3 to take the mens singles title, won the doubles at the 21st hole and enjoyed a 4 and 3 success over his 12-year-old brother Ciaran in the junior knockout final.
Encouraged by his father, Sean senior, Sean began playing golf at the age of 10 and has been a member at Bury ever since.
He has now whittled his handicap down to two and hopes to continue his golfing career by winning a place on the Leeds University team where he has recently started a three-year course in accounting and finance after gaining four A levels at Holy Cross College in Bury.
