JAZZY Kex -- even mentioning the name of this Blackburn haunt normally brings a smile to the face.
Most people who have progressed beyond the clubbing realms of alcopops and Kylie have experienced a night in Jazzy Kex, and normally have a tale to tell.
It's a club which is simple in design and where the emphasis is most definitely on the music, not how you're dancing and not how you're dressed.
But while most people have been to Jazzy's, most of them haven't been for a while, which is why we have made it our tip for the weekend.
Taking to the decks is underground star -- if that definition in itself isn't a contradiction -- Treva Whatever.
Well-known on the Manchester scene and best-known for partnering Mr Scruff with his hooks and beats style, Treva has done it all over the past few years.
Signed to Skint Records in 2000, Treva started to concentrate more on his studio work and subsequently released two extended players, Overdrawn and Overdue (October 2000) and Long Time Female Friend (March 2001).
His last vinyl offering was released through Tru Thoughts Recordings in November. The featured track, Singalong, was already a dancefloor favourite thanks to enthusiastic support from some of the UK's foremost club DJs.
Recent DJ work includes dates throughout Denmark to promote the Jack To Phono compilation, (for which Trev recorded a track for) Off Centre in London, which he has played alongside long term friend and collaborator Mr Scruff and local hero Sam Du Prez.
The New Year's Eve party at Zanzibar Liverpool saw Treva lift the roof alongside DJ Vadim.
He has also guested at Keep It Unreal (Scruff's own monthly) in Manchester, Nottingham and London.
And his tunes are popular with the TV ad men too.
His appearance at Jazzy's is tomorrow night and is expected to bring a good-sized crowd with it.
For those who haven't experienced the Jazzy's vibe yet, expect to hear anything including funk, soul, trip-hop, latin, jazz, nu-jazz and underground beatz
It's on 87-89 Regent Street, Blackburn, and their website, www.jazzykex.co.uk, is expected to go live soon.
