GREAT Harwood chiefs got some brief but important words of warning from their former manager Eric Whalley ahead of their huge FA Cup clash at Harrogate Town tomorrow - 'watch the two up front.'
Clint Marcelle and Robbie Whellans are two fearsome strikers in the UniBond Premier League and Whalley, now chairman of Accrington Stanley, knows all about them.
And he has passed on the information to underdogs Harwood as they prepare for one of their biggest games in recent years.
"We've spoke to Eric and we know we have to keep an eye on their frontmen," said boss John Hughes.
"It will be a big test for our young centre back Ryan Parr and Neil Baron should be back but it should be good experience for all the lads.
"Their manager came to watch us on Monday night and he will probably expect to beat us easily.
"People are expecting us to get beat seven or eight but I think we might just shock a few people.
"We are going well at the moment, we play some good football and I remember when I played at Harrogate it was always a nice surface.
"And they get big crowds. But saying that, the crowd has grown at Harwood recently and we are hoping a few more will come down and take a look at us in the future."
Harwood have moved up to fourth in the NWCL Division Two after just one loss in seven League encounters.
And, after picking up £8,500 from their cup run so far where they have won the last two games on penalties, there is £7,500 up for grabs from this round.
"That would be nice!" laughed the manager. "I think we could teach the England team how to take penalties!
"But I just want us to give a good account of ourselves and there might be a shock.
"I've heard people talking in the bar about how well we have been playing recently and it is nice to hear the good comments. But the league remains the priority."
James Coonan is the only doubt for Harwood while experienced Dave Sharples should come back into the line-up after missing Monday's 4-2 win over Colne.
