A NEW mum who gashed another woman with a broken cup leaving a gaping wound with flesh hanging out, is behind bars for 12 months.
Former drug addict Lisa Carter, 34, now said to a "model mother," was suffering pregnancy problems when she went out drinking and got wrapped up in other people's boyfriend trouble, Burnley Crown Court heard.
Sending her to jail, Recorder David Eccles said he found it "remarkable" she had gone out to the pub and got embroiled in a row when she had been having a difficult pregnancy
The judge, who said he did not want her new daughter to be taken into care, said he accepted Carter had had a tragic life but she knew the cup was smashed and she could have blinded victim Tracey Cottam.
Carter, of Sydney Street, Accrington, admitted unlawful wounding .
William Staunton, prosecuting, said Miss Cottam had gone to the Adelphi pub in Accrington. She thought a woman named Donna Fay had made an approach to her boyfriend.
The victim thought the matter was sorted out and when Miss Fay suggested they go back to her home, she did not feel in danger. The defendant went as well.
As soon as they got to the house the atmosphere changed immediately and Miss Fay said: "You're on my turf now."
The prosecutor said Miss Cottam was punched, fell towards the settee and Carter got involved, slashing Miss Cottam with the broken cup.
The complainant suffered a deep wound which a police officer described as "horrendous." Miss Cottam was also subjected to violence by others.
Peter Buckley, defending, said Carter accepted she had done wrong and was sorry. It was not her argument and it was absurd she found herself in the predicament she was in.
