A 52-YEAR-old Darwen woman died as a result of heart failure and not because of the binge drinking that had been a feature of her life over recent years.
An inquest heard that Roberta Entwistle, of Ellerbeck Road, had previously been diagnosed as suffering from angina, but this had not stopped her drinking.
Her daughter, Alexandra Entwistle, of Harwood Street, Darwen, said her mum would not drink at all for months on end but would then drink to excess.
She said that towards the end of May her mum had a drinking binge which lasted eight days. She was admitted to hospital early in June and died shortly after.
A post-mortem examination revealed she had died of heart failure as a result of existing disease with fatty liver contributing but not causing death.
Blood tests revealed that there was no alcohol in Mrs Entwistle's system. Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a natural causes verdict.
