CAMERON Galloway turned his back on heroin after his partner dumped him because of his drug abuse.
But Blackburn magistrates heard the tranquillisers he was taking to help him through "cold turkey" had clouded his thinking and resulted in his stealing from a town centre store.
Galloway, 24, of Police Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to stealing a wallet from T J Hughes.
He was fined £30 which was deemed paid as a result of him spending a night in police cells.
Louise Voce, defending, said Galloway's previous convictions had all been to feed his heroin habit.
"Three weeks ago he decided that enough was enough and he stopped taking heroin," said Miss Voce.
"He has been finding it difficult to cope with withdrawal and has been taking valium which he says helps him to relax."
She said the mother of Galloway's two children had finished with him because of his addiction and he was determined to stay off the drug.
"She has said she will take him back if he can kick his habit," said Miss Voce.
"She doesn't want the children to be brought up in that kind of environment."
