THE Clarets maintained their unbeaten record in September but manager Stan Ternent admitted: "We can play better".
"We have gone seven without loss despite not playing as well as we can. But we will keep improving and wins breed confidence.
"We have done extremely well after the first four games because we are playing a 42 match season.
"But we deserved the win, we created numerous chances and it was nice to get a clean sheet again. When we start playing well we should be okay."
Ternent was delighted by the efforts of Lee Briscoe alongside Tony Grant in the middle of the park. That has been a problem position for the club since the departure of Kevin Ball in the summer and he admitted: "Brizza did very well for us.
"He did a lot of work and a lot of responsibility rested on him. He and Tony worked their socks off and got forward well."
It was a break down the left by Briscoe that created the only goal, his low cross being converted by Glen Little for his first strike of the season.
The one injury concern that he faces ahead of tomorrow night's trip to Huddersfield Town in the Worthington Cup is a hamstring problem for right back Dean West.
He limped off in the second half on Saturday having struggled all week and is a doubt for the trip to the McAlpine.
West's latest contract at Turf Moor ran out on Saturday but Ternent is confident he will stay at the club.
"Hopefully it will be the same as you were and we will be talking to Dean today," he said. "As for his injury, we will see how he is today."
While Burnley enjoyed a productive weekend, the Terriers tumbled to second from bottom of the second division with a 4-0 defeat at Oldham.
Ternent will find out tomorrow if he has won the Nationwide award for the first division manager of the month although he may miss out because of the loss of two points at Bradford.
Eleven points from five games is an impressive haul but Leicester City's Micky Adams has seen his side take a couple more points from the same number of games.
Nationwide spokesman Chris Hull explained: "We are well aware of Stan's wonderful achievement in turning things around at Burnley in very difficult circumstances.
"He and Micky Adams are very strong contenders that will be considered by the panel today and there are also shouts for Neil Warnock, Harry Redknapp and Ray Lewington. The decision will be announced tomorrow morning."
