BACUP manager Brent Peters was left fuming after a lack of discipline cost his side two goals and the points at Maine Road.
Just 11 minutes into the NWCL second division game they were 1-0 down after Lee Kershaw let Maine Road player-boss Chris Simms ghost past him to put his side in to the lead.
And just 10 minutes later it was two after Simms again got past Kershaw on his blind side and fired home.
Bacup got back into the game on the half hour when Kershaw won a header in the box for Paul Fildes to score.
But Maine Road put men behind the ball in defence of their lead and it worked.
Peters said: "I told my players before the game to make it tight in midfield and they didn't do that.
"Once Maine Road were ahead they made it very difficult for us to break them down.
"We had a lot of possession but in the final third we found it impossible. Micky Bartholomew had the best chance to equalise but he waited for the ball to come to him when he should have attacked it.
"We are gifting teams goals at the moment but it is not right because we haven't played a team better than us yet."
