GLYN Garner's first clean sheet of the season earned Bury the right to take on Premiership neighbours Bolton Wanderers in the Worthington Cup second round.
And although he hasn't been able to emulate that 1-0 first round shutout against Stoke City in the league campaign he isn't letting it get him down.
The likeable Welshman is thoroughly enjoying his spell as the Shakers number one custodian after two years as Paddy Kenny's understudy.
It's encouraging for the former Welsh non-league international that no-one is making him scapegoat for the number of late goals that have denied the Shakers an even greater number of points than they currently have.
And rightly so. Rarely can a goakeeper have been beaten by as many classic strikes with Andy Morrell's first at Wrexham on Saturday a good example.
Garner put in another fine display against the Welshmen and earned his side a point with a vital save in the dying minutes.
With five minutes remaining he found himself confronted with Wrexham's Paul Barratt in acres of space but stood big to deny the midfielder with a terrific block.
"I saw him take an extra touch and it allowed my to close the angle down," he explained.
"He got in his shot but it caught me on the body I'm delighted to say!"
Equally delighted were his defensive teammates who this season haven't always protected the 21-year-old as they might.
"I criticise myself at every goal I concede, even penalties but some of them I haven't had a chance with. If we can defend better as a team it takes pressure off the lads at the back.
"We need to pick up players running from deep it can be the difference between one point and three."
"I am learning things from every match in fact all the goalkeepers at the club work hard with coach John Forrest on our games."
And the Pontypool-born shotstopper is looking forward to facing the likes of Michael Ricketts, Youri Djorkaeff, Jay-Jay Okocha and Chris Armstrong tomorrow night.
"All the lads are looking forward the game. You never know what can happen in the cup," he added.
"We'll go out there and enjoy the occasion and hopefully give our fans something to cheer about."
