HUDDERSFIELD Town fans will be hoping to get some light relief when the Clarets visit the McAlpine Stadium tonight.
Having slumped to second from bottom of the second division they have the unenviable record of having scored fewer League times than any other team in the country with just five goals in their first 11 games.
It is a record Burnley fans will have some sympathy with as they saw their side score just once in the opening five games of the season, a record since put right by scoring in every match in an unbeaten September.
The Terriers hopes of improving on their miserable record tonight have been hit by an injury to their popular striker Andy Booth. The striker who has played in the Premier League for both Sheffield Wednesday and Spurs, has got a hamstring problem and looks set to make way for Kevin Gallacher.
It has been a tough start to his new job for Mick Wadsworth who replaced Lou Macari in the summer. Macari was moved out despite the fact that he had led the side to the play-offs last season after their relegation from Division One the previous season.
If things were not bad enough for the new boss, he had to endure a 4-0 thumping at his former club Oldham Athletic at the weekend.
After that defeat Wadsworth admitted: "Our difficulty in scoring has become legendary." It is now seven hours and 15 minutes since an opposing keeper has had to pick the ball out of the net and Marlon Beresford will be targeting his second successive clean sheet.
As if not scoring is not bad enough, they have also been guilty of conceding far too easily and they have missed the presence of the injured pair of Eddie Youds and Adie Moses in the heart of the defence.
In the last round they beat third division Darlington 2-0 and, like every other club in these financially difficult times, they are hoping to put together a good run in the Worthington Cup in the hope of boosting funds and pulling out a plum tie.
Mind you, the way things are going the home fans will probably be happy just to see their side score!
