BLACKPOOL manager Steve McMahon admitted his side had thrown away a great chance to claim three points after Chesterfield extended their unbeaten run to six with a 1-0 victory at Saltergate.
The Blackpool boss saw his side throw away numerous chances and after the game claimed his side were unlucky not to win the game, never mind unfortunate to come away without a point.
Credit has to go to Chesterfield, who did what they set out to do well.
Even before David Reeves scored the only goal of the game on 48 minutes, the home side defended in numbers.
It was case of everybody back to defend to make it as diffifcult as possible for Blackpool to equalise.
With a bit of luck and some woeful finishing from Chesterfield achieved a narrow victory that pushes them into a playoff positon at the expense of Blackpool.
The opening minute of the game was to be a perfect summary of Blackpool's afternoon.
Barely 30 second had past and Scott Taylor found himself through on goal only to narrowly miss the target and then John Hiils fired a 25-yarder wide.
At the other end, Chesterfield began to create after a slow start and Andy Rushbury should have done better after Jamie Burt found him unmarked on the penalty spot.
Shortly afterwards David Reeves had a decent chance but shot straight at Phil Barnes.
But the ex-Preston striker made up for the miss by firing his side into the lead minutes after the break.
A sloppy free kick was given away to the home side and, followed by some wasted opportunities from Blackpool to clear, Reeves smashed home from close range.
Both sides had serveral chances to score in the remainder of the second period.
Richie Wellens and Scott Taylor were both foiled by Chesterfield keeper Carl Muggleton in the space of 60 seconds, while substitute Richard Walker had a goalbound shot blocked by Stuart Howson.
John Murphy had a great opportunity to equalise in the 80th minute but lost control of the ball when through on goal and Walker summed up the visitors' afternoon when he shot tamely at Muggleton in stoppage time.
Chesterfield 1 Blackpool 0
