THE visit of Wimbledon to Burnley on Saturday saw the sorry sight of the South London club's dwindling support huddling together in a clump in the Cricket Field End.
The home fans could entertain themselves at half-time by counting up exactly how many Wimbledon fans did visit with the best guess was around 67, although that was not allowing for isolated trips to the pie stand or toilet.
Saturday was the last time the Dons will visit the Clarets as a south London club.
That is a big shame because it can be argued that the Dons remarkable rise from the Southern League to FA Cup winners began at Turf Moor with their memorable 1-0 FA Cup win against Burnley.
They were then in the top flight of English football and that result, and their subsequent draw at mighty Leeds, put the town on the map for something other than the strawberries and cream set.
Two years later they joined the League, within nine years they were in the top flight and in 1988 they beat Liverpool at Wembley in the FA Cup final.
Talk about rags to riches, any scriptwriter would be certified if they had tried to sell that story. It even makes "Footballers Wives" appear plausible.
But this is not a fairytale that ends "happy ever after" because this is a story that sees the big bad wolf come out on top.
Of course it is understandable that the club wants to move from being a lowly tenant at Selhurst Park to its own home but to Milton Keynes, you must be joking.
If you want to nip round the corner for a takeaway curry in London you have to allow half an hour, imagine going across or round the capital to watch all your home games. Never mind a fairytale, that is a horror story.
I can't even understand the logic of choosing a commuter town famous for little more than its concrete cows. Let's face it, the place will be full of Arsenal and Tottenham fans who will only go to Wimbledon for one thing - that is tennis.
"Franchising" is the dirty word that has been bandied about in relation to the move and it is no wonder the die hard fans have set up the new club that plays under the AFC Wimbledon banner. A football club is a community that has its very own heartbeat, it is not a commodity that can be bought and sold.
Can you seriously imagine a position where the Clarets board decides to upsticks and relocate to somewhere like Warrington because it only has a rugby league team and so there is a gap in the football market.
Nonsense I know but that is what is happening down with Dons.
It is not just tennis that Wimbledon is famous for, of course it has the Wombles.
Uncle Bulgaria, Tobermory and Co. spent the 70s picking up rubbish from Wimbledon Common and recycling it.
The idea of moving to Milton Keynes is definitely in the rubbish category.
Every football fan across the country will hope that this is one piece of rubbish that is NEVER recycled.
