BLACKBURN captain Stuart Jarrold is looking for a morale boosting victory against Lymm on Saturday to get last week's error-strewn defeat out of the system.

The first team skipper was bitterly disappointed by the silly mistakes in the 32-10 defeat that denied them any chance of a rare North Two West League victory against their arch rivals.

He said: "We played well in parts and can take satisfaction in that. But when you give away 15 points in five minutes then you are left with a mountain to climb."

Blackburn started the stronger of the two teams but Vale hit back strongly and in the space of five first half minutes scored three error-assisted tries -- with winger Dominic Young at fault for one of them.

Outside half Steve Kerry kicked a solitary penalty as Vale went in 15-3 at the break.

After the restart Danny Lambert fumbled under pressure and Vale broke away to score under the posts and the try was converted to make it 22-3.

But Andrew Graham dived over under the posts and Kerry converted to put Blackburn back in it at 22-10.

Jarrold added: "At that stage we thought they were there for taking. Their heads had dropped and we were in with a real shout but unfortunately it wasn't to be."

Vale secured the win in the last 10 minutes when their big pack roared up the field and peeled through a ruck to score. The try was converted and Vale added a late penalty to make it 32-10.

"There were some encouraging performances," added Jarrold. "Adam Smith was excellent again at number eight and Andrew Graham gave a good account of himself at outside centre. And there was another text book performance from Steve Kerry.

"It's still very early in the season but if we can cut out the unforced errors then promotion has still got to be our main objective."

BLACKBURN FIRSTS: Mat Spence, Dominic Young, Andrew Graham, Richard Sheil, Tapiwa Nhipe, Steve Kerry, Danny Lambert, Richard McCarthy, Andrew Ridehalgh, Simon Calcutt, Tony Hodgson, Phil Crayston, Stuart Jarrold, Adam Smith, Dominic Moon.

BLACKBURN moved three points clear with a strong performance over champions Vale Vikings.

Defence up front was the key to this 24-0 victory. John Board and Adam Gough crossed the line as Blackburn made 20 minutes of pressure count to put them 10-0 up.

Not all was going Blackburn's way as their scrummage was constantly on the back foot. But line outs were a different story with Johnny Hayhurst winning balls at regular intervals -- and Mick Dolan sprinted 30m to score under the posts.

Blackburn were pegged back in the second half but the visitors could not make any meaningful raids.

With time ticking away, Blackburn launched one final attack to put in the impressive Gough to make the final score 24-0.

On Saturday, Blackburn take on local rivals Preston at home.
