ST Leonard's School Harvest Service is being held tomorrow at 9.30am.
There will be a Harvest Supper in St Leonard's at 7.30pm. A harvest Family Service will then be held in the church on Sunday, at 10.45am.
A SPONSORED walk will be held on Sunday by the Rossendale Search and Rescue Team. It is round Pendle Hill, through Padiham and will cover approximately eight miles. Half of the proceeds raised will go to the Search and Rescue Team and the other half will go to charities supported by the participants.
The Search and Rescue Team is a registered charity run by volunteers and funded solely by donations. They are often called into the Padiham and Hapton areas. If you are interested in supporting them ring Graham Roe on 01282 664, or 07812 504586.
STAFF at Gawthorpe High School were relieved to hear that Padiham teenager Jan Clough, who was recently injured at Blackburn, is recovering.
Jan, a former pupil at the school where he was known as Cloughie, is fondly remembered by staff and pupils as a happy lad with a mischievous smile.
THE Suntastic Tanning Salon in Church Street, Padiham, is set to change its appearance again. The owner John Fielding has been ordered by the planning department of Burnley Council to unblock doors and windows which he had closed off, and also to remove the floodlights outside the premises. Mr Fielding's sin? He had not applied for planning permission.
WORK has not yet started on the empty space once so majestically occupied by the Padiham Adult Education Centre. Permission has been granted to Lovell's builders to build three and four-bedroom houses.
HAPTON'S Environment Group has applied for planning permission to site a car park at the entrance of the recreation ground. This is for people who wish to take advantage of the soon to be improved sporting facilities. The parish council had no objection to the plan.
However, residents on Carter Avenue are organising a petition against the plan. They fear extra cars will use their street. The issue will be debated at the next parish council on October 8, at 7.30pm, by Burnley and Pendle Community Housing tenant Tony Brankin, on behalf of other residents of Carter Avenue.
The Parish Council agreed to the car park plan as it felt it would save Carter Avenue from being 'double parked' even more than it is presently.
THE visit by Lancashire County officials to the proposed animal waste incinerator site at the former Hapton Valley Colliery location will now take place on October 21.
Protesters -- who will not be allowed to speak -- will line the route to the location. The county council's decision will be made known in November.
