HEALTH and Safety officials were today carrying out an investigation at Hollands Pies after a female worker was taken to hospital following a serious accident which seriously damaged a finger.
Fire crews were called to the business in Manchester Road, Baxenden, after receiving reports that the woman, who has not been named, had got a finger trapped in a machine.
Leading firefighter George Mullaney said: "When we arrived the ambulance crew was already there and it was virtually done and dusted.
"The supposition was that the woman had lost part of the finger."
The employee was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary by ambulance after the incident at around 11.25pm last night.
Graham March, managing director of Hollands Pies, said he was unable to comment on the accident at this stage.
