A 19-YEAR-OLD Darwen youth went along with his alcoholic mother's suggestion that they steal drink from Netto, a court heard.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Jason Talbot accepted full responsibility for the offence when he and his mum were arrested and taken to the police station.

But defence solicitor Basharat Ditta said in his opinion Talbot's mother had been the "principal player" in the theft of 10 bottles of sherry and six bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale.

Talbot, of London Terrace, pleaded guilty to shoplifting. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £75 costs.
