A WINDOW cleaner who punched a stranger during a violent scuffle after a rugby league match has failed to get a cut in his one year jail term.

Raymond Andrew Cross, aged 39, of Braken Road, Leigh, was jailed for 12 months at Bolton Crown Court on June 25 after pleading guilty to violent disorder.

London's Criminal Appeal Court yesterday refused to cut his term, saying a man with a record of violence and public disorder offences could not sensibly complain about a 12-month term.

The attack happened in July last year after a game between Leigh and Wigan in Leigh.

Cross, who also been at the game, came across a fight and punched his victim at least once before making off.

When interviewed months later, Cross admitted being at the match but denied being involved in any violence, saying he simply had seen a scuffle.
