MOTORISTS in Pendle are being urged to keep their personal belongings out of sight when they leave their car after a spate of car break-ins in Colne.
High visibility patrols have been covering the area and posters warning people to secure their property will soon be put up in the town.
Inspector Martin Holleran, geographic inspector for Colne and West Craven, said: "There's been a bit of a problem with thefts from cars in the last few days and nearly all of the crimes are committed against vehicles that are leaving property on view.
"Things stolen, as well as the car radios, include property on display such as clothing, holdalls, an art set, basically anything they can see. We want to advise people to keep things hidden away.
"Officers are going to be going round areas visiting known criminals and known outlets for stolen property. I'm also putting officers on high visibility patrols and they will be checking vehicles and advising local residents to put their belongings away. If they see something on show during the night and don't want to disturb the owner they will send them a letter warning them."
In the latest incidents on Wednesday night property including binoculars, clothes, a black torch, first aid kit, tool boxes and a cordless drill were stolen from vehicles in Great George Street, Sefton Street, Charles Street and Robert Street.
