FUND-RAISERS supporting the Magic Eye sponsored walk will be hoping for good weather when they put their best foot forward as part of the event on Sunday, October 13.
But one man dedicated to raising funds for the Lancashire Evening Telegraph appeal is guaranteed some sunshine after mapping out a 10-mile circuit around the holiday isle of Tenerife instead!
Keith Ramsbottom, a keen golfer at Pleasington Golf Club, is heading for the sunshine-soaked Playa De Las Americas on a two-week holiday and plans to walk five miles to Los Cristianos and back.
And the 59-year-old retired policeman is delighted to be supporting the appeal, just days after being given the all clear by doctors over heart problems.
"The 95 degree heat will be the toughest element for us! But this is the fifteenth time we have been and we would love to take a long walk.
"The appeal will have an extra boost from our sponsorship -- we hope to raise around £100, in English currency of course!"
The appeal target is £200,000, which will buy an endoscopic ultrasound scanner for the quicker diagnosis of stomach and oesophagus cancer. "We just believe this is something really important for the people of East Lancashire and the more of these facilities we can have up and running the better," he said.
Keith was released from hospital on Monday after suffering from an unusually high heart rate.
He was given the all clear after passing running tests. Now Keith, his wife and brother-in-law are all packed up and ready for take-off.
"The doctors were great and gave me permission to fly and do the walk so we are really looking forward to it."
Ian Woolley, the sponsored walk co-ordinator, said: "To have this level of support is tremendous for the appeal and the event.
"I hope he will share a little sunshine for the day here in England!"
Six sponsored walks will set off in Burnley, Nelson, Rossendale, Clitheroe, Hyndburn and Blackburn between 9am and 10.30am on Sunday, October 13.
