A MAN did not regain consciousness after undergoing surgery at the Royal Bolton Hospital an inquest heard.
Peter Newton, of Blake Avenue, Atherton, died in January, aged 70.
The inquest was told that he had been taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital as an emergency patient and was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
The operation seemed to be successful, but shortly afterwards Mr Newton's blood pressure dropped and his condition deteriorated.
A post mortem examination in February found that Mr Newton had died as a result of pneumonia following a stroke, which was due to surgery for bowel cancer.
Assistant deputy coroner Alan Walsh recorded a verdict of misadventure.
