A PRESTWICH-based private hire firm is in the fast lane to becoming the biggest operator in North Manchester following the acquisition of a rival company.
Magnum Private Hire has bought out Whitefield-based Whiteline Taxis for an undisclosed sum.
The combined strength of the new operation will see around 80 private hire vehicles operating throughout the south of the borough.
Ultimately, the new name of the company is likely to be Magnum Whiteline. For the time being, both firms will work in partnership.
Co-Magnum owner Mr Raymond Murray said: "The acquisition means we now have the biggest company of its kind in North Manchester."
Whiteline, which has been operating for around ten years, has been owned by Mr David Taylor and Mr Alan Walker. Its main office was in Bury New Road, near the former Masons Arms pub.
"I first started to talk to Mr Taylor two years ago about a possible acquisition," added Mr Murray. "Since then, it was something we had discussed periodically. This time around, both decided to take up the offer.
"The acquisition will allow us to give a better service in Prestwich and Whitefield and North Manchester."
Magnum, based next to the Longfield Centre, has been operating for the past 18 years.
