FIFTY friends and relatives gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of Colne great-grandmother Katherine Frankland.
Mrs Frankland, who lives in Bent Lane, was taken to JJs Restaurant in Colne to celebrate her milestone birthday and received many cards and gifts.
She was visited by the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle, Coun Pauline McCormick and her sister Gillian Carradice.
Born in Nelson, Mrs Frankland then moved to The Nook, at Lenches, Colne, before living in both Keighley Road and Skipton Road.
Her grandson, Michael Whittaker, said: "She is as lively as anything. She has never really worked and she has lived in the house she is in now for more than 50 years. The meal at the weekend was the main event for her birthday."
Mrs Frankland married her late husband Vincent in the 1920s.
They owned the former Franklands Mill, in Walton Street, before taking over Smith and Wilde grocers, in Market Street, from Mrs Frankland's father.
The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary shortly before Mr Frankland died in 1976. Mrs Frankland celebrated her birthday with her daughter Pamela, two grandsons and four great grandchildren.
She said: "I had a lovely birthday and was entertaining all day. I haven't really had to work hard because we always had enough money to live on. I think I have always had a fairly easy life and I am still doing things I enjoy."
