BILL Whitehead, former captain of the Bury Schoolboys XI, has signed as part-time professional for Bury.
He has been assisting the club as an amateur since he left school three years ago and is showing great promise as a right half. Last Saturday he was a member of the Lancashire Youth XI which met Liverpool FA at Prescot.

BURY's proud boast of being the only side in the Football League with an unbeaten away record after Tuesday's games lasted just 24 hours as rejuvenated Hereford produced two flashes of brilliance to steal two points at Edgar Street on Wednesday.
A goal in a million from United full back Steve Ritchie in the 64th minute was worthy of winning any match, but the man who really had the Shakers -- and the crowd -- gasping in disbelief was goalkeeper Peter Mellor who denied Andy Rowland an equaliser with what the locals described as the best save ever seen on the ground 12 minutes from time.
