CAN you give a child a good home? That's what social services will be asking during National Adoption Week next week.
They especially need to find homes for older children, sibling groups, disabled youngsters and children of dual heritage.
Diana Powell, manager of the Bury Family Placement Team, said: "Many people who have adopted say it is the most challenging and rewarding thing they have done.
"We want to provide more children with a safe and loving family who will support them through childhood and beyond.
"Many people tend to think of babies needing adoption, but there are many older children for whom finding a secure and permanent family is just as important."
Prospective adopters must be at least 21 years old, understand children's needs and be able to provide a stable and loving home.
Applicants can be considered regardless of age, marital status or religion. In some instances, allowances are paid.
Councillor Mike Connolly, executive member for health and social services, said: "We hope that people who may be considering adoption will come forward to find out more.
"There is no pressure, just a chance to discover the facts and get your questions answered and concerns addressed."
Preparation sessions for those interested in adoption will be held next month and in spring next year.
For an information pack, phone the family placement team on 253 5457. Facts about adoption are on the council's website, www.bury.gov.uk, under the A-Z of council services.
