NEW mums at Fairfield Hospital can care for their little ones in comfort and privacy thanks to a new breast feeding room.
Situated in the special care baby unit, the refurbished room has been created especially for mothers of premature babies.
Instead of tending to their babies on the ward, protected only by a screen, the mothers can now sit comfortably and privately in a designated area that is fully equipped and has a television.
The room was created, at a cost of £15,000, thanks to the generosity of support group, Fairfield Baby Lifeline SONNIC.
The group spend their spare time fund-raising for the unit by organising raffles, town centre collections and social events.
Sister Jackie Blease, who works on the unit, said: "The room is lovely and is really well-used. The mums like it as it is private for breast feeding and is more welcoming and relaxed than clinical, which is a better environment for the success of breastfeeding."
The fund-raising group's next project is to re-decorate the parents' sitting room.
Members of SONNIC will be out on the streets of Bury tomorrow (Sat Oct 12) collecting money outside Mothercare on The Rock, in aid of the Special Care Baby Unit at Fairfield.
