UEFA last night came out with all guns blazing in a bid to stamp out the kind of racist incidents which dogged Blackburn Rovers' UEFA Cup clash with CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria.

Rovers striker Andy Cole, Fulham's Rufus Brevett, Ipswich's Marcus Bent and Arsenal's Thierry Henry have all been the subject of racial abuse during recent European ties.

And UEFA have now promised to act by combating the evil with a propaganda campaign including a letter and a 10-point plan of action for professional clubs.

The plan demands that all clubs should take their own action, such as banning fans guilty of chanting racial abuse, removing racist graffitti from grounds, and initiating anti-racist publicity campaigns of their own.

Meanwhile, Leeds United have won their battle to avoid racist thugs in Bulgaria after being told they can play the away leg of their UEFA Cup tie with Hapoel Tel Aviv in Florence.

Security concerns mean United's Israeli opponents play their European home games in Sofia.
