THERE was a real carnival atmosphere at an annual football tournament organised to raise the profile of a Blackburn community.
Organised by Little Harwood Youth, which was formed three years ago, the tournament attracted 24 teams -- including those that took part in the first ever junior competition.
But it proved to be a day out for the whole family as the Fire Brigade and Territorial Army provided the entertainment while there was a bouncy castle to amuse the younger children and refreshments were provided by Spicey Grill Takeaway.
The event was used as the launchpad for a new CD produced by Little Harwood Youth called Boundaries about life in the community.
The community spirit was highlighted in the teams themselves as they took on the names of local businesses in the area.
The senior tournament, which attracted 12 teams, was won by S and M Car Care and Javaria Textiles were runners-up. In the under 15s category, Whalley Range were the first ever junior winners with Fatima Fashions finishing as runners-up.
Competition co-ordinator Mick Badrudin praised all the hard work put in by volunteers for making the event run smoothly.
He said: "A lot of hard work was put in by a lot of people, especially Iqbal Khan and Imran Khan who must be thanked for all their efforts.
"The Cage competition is the ideal opportunity to bring all the community together and it was a big success. Each year we are trying to raise the profile of the event and make it a very special occasion for the whole family to enjoy."
