THE chef at an award-winning Indian takeaway revealed this week how he produced another spicy curry for former Prime Minister John Major.

Shanin Ahmed dished up a chicken madras for the deposed leader -- whose fling with ex-Government minister Edwina Currie has shocked the nation.

Mr Ahmed is chef at the Naseeb takeaway, Runshaw Lane, Euxton, which has been recognised by the Good Eating Guide 2002, and proudly displays a certificate confirming the honour -- together with a photograph of Mr Ahmed meeting Mr Major.

Mr Ahmed also helped prepare the food at the opening of the Little India takeaway, Liverpool Road, Penwortham, on October 1. The takeaway belongs to the same family business as the Naseeb.

Mr Major, who was still PM at the time, was dining out at one of the top quality Juboraj Restaurants in Wales where Mr Ahmed was working.

Mr Ahmed, 27, who has lived in Chorley for two years, explained: "He was going to a meeting in Newport and had been recommended to come to our place.

"He wasn't talking about politics, he was talking about football."

Mr Ahmed said the meal he cooked for Mr Major was "quite spicy". The former PM washed it down with half a lager.

"I would cook him another curry, why not?" added Mr Ahmed.

And Mrs Currie? "Why not? That would be nice!"

Rokib Ali, manager of the Naseeb, which means "Destiny", said customers had been pointing at the photograph of Mr Major and wryly inquiring about it.

He said: "Some people were saying he's boring, but now he's okay . . . a bit of lad. They think he's spicy now, that's why he's gone for Edwina Currie!
