STANLEY took honours in the local derby in a tight game which was marred by a referee who refused to let the game flow by giving a string of penalties right through the game.
In fact Craig Campbell gave the Scorpions the lead with a penalty. Stanley hit back with a try and increased the score to 12-2 when they took a quick tap and Russel Webster dived over under the posts.
From the kick off Stanley fumbled the ball and Simon Pritchard scooped up the loose ball to score. Campbell converted and shortly after kicked another penalty. With seconds to go before half-time Dave Tanner dropped a goal from 30 metres to make it 12-11 to Stanley.
Stanley scored a converted try and increased the lead to 24-11 with another. The Scorpions fought back with Shaun Towell racing over. Scorpions coach Dave Tanner then scored in the corner to make it 19-24 with 10 minutes left. However, Stanley increased their lead with two more penalties.
