ANIMAL lovers were celebrating today with the news that the RSPCA's Longview Animal Home at Marton has been saved.
In November last year, the charity's local branch announced a decision to close Longview because of financial difficulties. The trustees were later persuaded to give staff and supporters the chance to raise enough money to cover its annual running costs.
A decision on the future of Longview Animal Home, in Division Lane, was due to be made next month but, astounded by the public response to a fund-raising appeal backed by The Citizen, the trustees today removed the threat of imminent closure.
The fund-raisers were asked to bring in at least £8,000 via monthly direct debit donations. Les Jones, branch treasurer, said the total currently pledged stood just under £5,000 per month - but the branch is now confident that Longview can run on that.
To donate contact the branch on 01253 294481 or Longview on 01253 763991, between 11am and 3-30pm, for a standing order form.
