WHILE walking around our lovely 'leafy' area recently, I came across a sturdy wooden bridge crossing a stream that had been vandalised.
Later I learned a number of teenagers were responsible for this act of wanton destruction and those who witnessed it were too afraid to do anything about it for fear of reprisals.
However, from past experiences, the only way to stop these yobs is to stand up and be counted. The softly, softly approach most people employ (including the police) plays into their hands and just doesn't work.
Indeed, their threats throw most people on the defensive and that's what they want, but if you stand up to the bullies they back off.
But we need do something to make them show some respect by appreciating their surroundings, because these troublemakers spoil it for everyone.
