ON reading the report of the young boy who was rescued by helicopter after falling from a motorcycle and breaking his leg (Bury Times, Sept 27), I was disappointed that your reporter had failed to address certain questions.
This boy was, presumably, using an uninsured motor cycle in a public place. Would there have been any financial recourse if the motor cycle had broken the leg of a pedestrian?
What legal action is being taken by the police, and what was the cost of the rescue operation? Will this money be recouped from the family? Has anything been contributed to the Mountain Rescue team by the family? Could there yet be a claim by the NHS?
The question of "joy-riding" by unlicensed and uninsured riders in such places, should be addressed as soon as possible and before a member of the public is injured.
I have a personal interest in this piece of news as, literally, two minutes prior to the accident, this boy attempted to intimidate me into getting off the single path to make way for him, revving the engine and blasting on the horn. As he passed me, an OAP, he verbally abused me. Despite this, I was the one who contacted the ambulance service.
Let's have more balanced press reports that do not make such miscreants into some sort of hero which they most certainly are not.
