LAST weekend's Worthington Cup draw has increased the interest in the reunion dinner planned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the most famous clash between Burnley and Spurs - the 1962 FA Cup Final at Wembley.

That game, between the two greatest clubs of that era, saw the Clarets beaten 3-1 and on Thursday November 14, to mark the anniversary of the momentous occasion, there will be a dinner in honour of players from both clubs at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel.

As expected, most of the Clarets heroes from that day are certain to be in attendance but the organisers are delighted that there will be at least four stars from the Spurs team as well.

"The fact the two sides play each other the week before has really got the interest going," explained Tom Roe, who is one of the organisers alongside Veronica Simpson from the ex-Clarets Association.

"It is a fantastic draw for Clarets fans and a real reminder of the glory days at Turf Moor. Fans of all ages know how big games between the clubs were back in the early 60s and the dinner offers a unique chance to see the great rivals side-by side again.

"The idea to mark the 40 year anniversary came when a few of us were sitting around after the dinner in honour of Brian Miller earlier this year.

"We just thought it was a great opportunity to do something and we have been planning the night ever since. We already know that Dave Mackay, Maurice Norman, Cliff Jones and Bob Smith are going to be coming up and it will be great to get them together with the Burnley lads.

"We have approached all the Burnley team and had a really good response and we know that John Angus and Gordon Harris will both be there.

"Sadly Brian Miller will be away and he is gutted he will miss it but we hope that as many as possible will be able to attend.

"The night will offer the fans a great chance to mingle with the stars of the 60s and they will be interviewed and sharing their memories of the game."

The cost of tickets for the dinner is £35 and once costs are covered any money that is raised will be given to charity.

"This is not about making money, this is about everyone having a good time and renewing old acquaintances," said Tom. Anyone interested in attending the evening or finding out more details can call Terry on 01253 729254 or Veronica on 01282 436869.
