FLORAL displays which brightened up Darwen in summer were praised by the Civic Society.

Clifford Pryce, of Pembroke Court sheltered housing, was one of four winners of the annual Darwen Civic Pride Awards.

Society chairman Sally Howarth said: "These awards go to people who have made a special effort in keeping their property tidy and attractive and Mr Pryce did just that. His hanging baskets and flowers were a delight."

Other winners included Marshmallow Nurseries, in Sudellside, and Adam Higab of Sunnyhurst Motors.
