A BREWERY worker who twice hit another man with a bottle and then kixked the victim as he lay on the ground was today starting a 12 month jail term.
Burnley Crown Court heard how Stephen McAleese set about complainant Michael Entwistle right under the noses of police after an early hours takeaway fracas in Accrington.
Sentencing, Judge Raymond Bennett said the defendant's behaviour had been blatant and a video showing the attack revealed McAleese apparently stamping on Mr Entwistle.
The defendant, of Dunoon Drive, Blackburn, had earlier admitted unlawful wounding. Paul Hague, prosecuting, said a fight erupted between a friend of the defendant and another man, police were called and the friend was arrested.
The defendant had a bottle in his hand and McAleese hit him. Police saw two blows and reported the bottle broke the first time.
Judith McCullough, defending, said there was no doubt McAleese went over the top but he was reacting to something that happened.
