WHAT a pity that the writer of your leader column (LET, October 7) failed to point out that there are two definitions of 'nig-nog' and that anyone with a modicum of common sense wouldn't even question that Jim Bowen used the original and first definition -- quite correctly, in my view.
By pandering to the over-sensitivity of some raw recruit at the BBC who may have moved on by tomorrow, we, the people who count as purchasers and listeners, are the only losers here.
While journalists and broadcasters dig themselves deeper into the absurdities of political correctness and pat themselves on the back for ridding our airwaves of wonderful individuals like Jim Bowen, I suggest they dust off their dictionaries, stop pandering to the 'thought police' and get back to finding the pulse of the real people of this country!
