COLNE-born musician Rachael Clegg will return home next week as principal oboe in the Manchester Camerata Orchestra.
Each year Colne Municipal Hall hosts a series of classical music concerts performed by Manchester Camerata, one of the leading chamber orchestras in the country.
The next is on Thursday, October 24, when Rachael will be performing pieces by Purcell, Vaughan Williams, Walton, Tippett and Holst.
Born in Colne in 1967, Rachael began playing the oboe at the age of ten and was for many years Principal Oboe with the Lancashire Students' Symphony Orchestra.
She furthered her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where she won a mu,ber of prestigious awards.
She is currently principal oboe with three orchestras -- Manchester Camerata, Lancashire Sinfonietta and the Manchester Concert Orchestra -- as well as frequently working with the Halle Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and the BBC Welsh and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestras.
Rachael also finds time to teach at Chethams School of Music in Manchester as well as giving classes in oboe reed making.
