A NEW scheme worth more than £1million has been praised today by local councillors.
Councillor Eileen Entwistle of Sudell Ward was taken on a tour of the Sure Start Centre, in Lord Street, which opened to the public last week.
An official open day has yet to be arranged but the initial reports describe the centre as a "wonderful" centre.
Coun Entwistle said: "It is a wonderful scheme which looks after children from birth to when they go to school and takes care of the parents as well.
"It covers all things that effect families of today including the fathers! It used to be Lord Street nursery but this building is bigger and better."
The centre cost £1.2million and includes a mobile toy centre, resources for parents and runs classes. The centre is being run by Lis Fraser.
