EAST LANCASHIRE'S first cannabis cafe has closed only two months after boss David Wilson allowed drugs to be used on the premises.

The 37-year-old father-of-two sparked outrage when he started to allow cannabis to be smoked in his Real Jerk takeaway, Bolton Road, Blackburn, in August.

Police warned him they would "keep an eye" on his activities but although they have visited the takeaway, no arrests have been made.

Today Detective Chief Inspector Neil Smith said: "We will work closely with Mr Wilson on any plans he has to open a new cafe and make sure he is not breaking the law.

"If he does then we will rigorously enforce it."

Mr Wilson closed the cafe himself this week after claiming the place became too popular.

He said: "It was getting too busy, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

"We are a takeaway but a lot of people were here just for the cannabis which can be a bit in your face for the other customers.

"I was going to move the kitchen upstairs and just have downstairs for cannabis, but I've decided to look for somewhere else instead, maybe in the town centre.

"I'm definitely coming back and it will be bigger and better."

Mr Wilson's plans to expand came as the owner of a similar venture in Accrington organised a pro-cannabis rally.

Frank Mac, who opened his cafe above the Studio One tattoo parlour, in Warner Street, was raided last week by police.

Mr Mac -- like Mr Wilson -- allows cannabis to be used but does not sell the drug.

Mr Wilson said the police had been "great" with him and thanked the support of his customers.
