POLICE are hunting a bogus caller who targeted a pensioner after claiming he had been involved in a car accident.
The conman called at the 89-year-old woman's house in Romford Street, Burnley and claimed he had driven his car into her back wall.
He said he wanted the woman's name and address so he could send it to his insurance company and as she turned away he grabbed her handbag and purse and fled.
Police say witnesses reported seeing a man acting suspiciously in the area shortly before the theft. He was white, 30 years, grey hair, wearing a blue woolly hat, dark fleece jacket and grey trousers.
Det Sgt Pete Simm, of Burnley CID, said: "We are treating this very seriously as any crime against the elderly is absolutely despicable.
"We are very keen to catch this man and would urge anyone with information to call us on 01282 472142."
