THE Derek Gawthorpe Memorial Bowling Shield was donated to Lowerhouse Bowling Club on Lowerhouse Lane in memory of Derek by his wife Margaret.
Derek enjoyed playing for the club's teams and was captain of the Tuesday team until shortly before he died.
The shield was won by Brian Smith and his wife Barbara was runner up.
The competition attracted 19 members of the club and was played in a round robin format in glorious sunshine.
A cheque for £120, which was raised by the members, was handed to Margaret to pass on to the hospice.
ST MARK'S Church, on Rossendale Road, held a brass band concert in the church last Saturday night by Burnley Alliance Silver Band.
A good evening was enjoyed by everyone who attended.
The winner of the weekend in Blackpool was ticket number 264 and the winner was Mr and Mrs Green of Rosegrove.

AT Sycamore Avenue Community Centre there is a Halloween Disco and fancy dress night on Wednesday October 23 from 7.00pm - 8.30pm. All ages are welcome to come along amd enjoy themselves. Prizes for the best costume, age groups up to 10 years and 11 years and over.
ROSEGROVE Infant School closes for half term on Friday18th October for one week.
A SITE visit by county councillors will take place on Monday 21 October at 10.15am regarding the animal waste incinerator.
This will be followed by a presentation of the case and its issues at 11.30am at Rosegrove Unity Club, Rossendale Road. A residents consultant is to attend and the event is open to public.
